Explanation
Stone is one of nature's most beautiful materials and each plate is made from a unique piece of stone. The surface is treated and polished to highlight the expression of the individual stone slab, which also means that the slabs naturally vary in expression, colour, structure, and surface. Both marble and travertine have an open and porous surface that requires proper maintenance.
Daily cleaning
For daily cleaning, wiping with a hard-wrung cloth in warm water is recommended, followed by wiping with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use scouring powder, nylon sponges and acid/chemical cleaning or dish soap.
Basic cleaning
A more thorough cleaning can be done with small amount of soap flakes dissolved in water. Wipe afterwards with a clean, damp cloth so that no soap residue is left and finish with a clean, dry cloth.
Care and maintenance
It is recommended that you regularly care for the surface with a marble sealer, which extend the penetration time.
NB! It is important to be aware that the surface treatment recommendation vary with the different products of stone species and the exact surface treatment.
Stains and damage
Avoid direct contact with liquids (water, wine, cola, coffee, red wine etc.) and acidic foods (citrus fruits, ketchup etc.). Liquids and condensation must be wiped away immediately to avoid damage/discoloration of the surface. Daily use of coasters is therefore recommended, and the use of felt cushions for decorative items is also recommended.
Heat damage and glow marks
Never place hot pots and pans directly on the stone surface, as this can affect the stone material and result in cracks and peeling. Also be aware of heat generation from candlesticks and glows from candles.
These types of damage can NOT be removed or repaired!
